Solar Thermal: Solar Power
Choosing a solar water heating system:
When choosing a solar water heating system, you'll need to consider four major factors:
You'll also need to select system components (such as a hot water cylinder, controls and pipe work) and choose the location for your solar panels, considering shade, pipe runs, roof pitch and future access. This will all be considered during your free site survey by Eco Dragon Plumbing and Heating. How Solar Thermal Systems Work:
The solar panels collect energy from the sun which heats the fluid in the solar panels. When the fluid in the panels is hot enough, the pump station circulates the hot fluid around the system. The hot fluid is pumped around the coil at the bottom of the solar cylinder and heats the water contained within the cylinder. The solar controller is the brains of the system, managing the solar system during daylight hours, enabling you to time your hot water, just like a central heating programmer, and measure the amount of energy you have gained from the sun. If the temperature sensor in the cylinder detects that the solar panel hasn’t collected enough energy to heat the hot water to the required temperature, a supplementary heat source will be required to top up the temperature of the hot water. Solar Thermal technology harnesses energy from the sun, which provides hot water for your home, which in turn helps to reduce the costs of your electricity, gas and oil bills. Solar thermal collectors are attached to your roof where they collect heat from the sun. The heat transfer system uses this energy to heat the water in your new solar thermal twin-coil hot water cylinder. This highly efficient cylinder stores your hot water and supplies it for later use, although it may need some assistance during winter months. |
Benefits:
Hot Water throughout The Year: The system works all year round, although during the winter you may need to help further heat your water with a conventional system. Cut Your Bills: Sunlight is free, so once you’ve paid for the initial installation your water heating bills will be reduced. Cut Your Carbon Footprint: Solar hot water is a free, green and renewable, and also helps reduce your carbon footprint and CO2 emissions. Low environmental impact: the average domestic system can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 325kg per year (depending on the fuel replaced). Can reduce hot water heating costs by up to 70% annually.
